(No) Fishing Report

I have delayed adding a news report in the hope that I might have had something positive to add. Sadly, this is not the case as June was dominated by dry weather. The Creed catchment along with the rest of the island, apart from the Harris hills, had no meaningful rainfall in June. All rivers are now very low and several days of rain are needed to allow fish to run from the sea. No meaningful rain is forecast.

There are countless sea trout, finnock and (a few) salmon in Stornoway harbour waiting for rain, and looking after them is taking up much of the time of club members. If anyone sees anything they think might be suspicious, please tell the club bailiffs.

Loch Langavat currently offers the best chance of a salmon for Association members. There was a reasonable run of fish into Grimersta during June and most of these fish are now in Loch Langavat. The brown trout on Loch Langavat offer superb sport for fly fishermen willing to target them, with 50 trout for a day not unusual.

Keep an eye on the forum for late availability on North Harris. Next week is available and, if it rains, will offer some superb sport for those anglers willing to take up the fishing on offer.

I shall add another update once I can think of something positive to write!
