Fishing Update

River Creed

Since my last update in mid July the river level slowly dropped away until it was impossible for migratory fish to enter the river from the sea. There were very few anglers out on the river. I suspect a few small grilse and sea trout would have been taken in the Matheson Pool on worm, but that practice is now banned.

There was a considerable build up of salmon/grilse in the sea that required round the clock protection. There has (this weekend) been the first rise in water since the end of June and this has allowed the salmon to enter the river. The salmon seem to be running quickly through the lower river so prospects for the coming week are good. There will be fresh salmon in both the river and lochs.

Loch Langavat

The SAA is fortunate to have two boats on the loch and there were some very good days in July with up to 5 salmon a day boated. With a strong grilse run continuing to enter Grimersta prospects remain good on the loch.

Association members also took advantage of the boat on Grimersta No1 (Friday evenings) and Loch Fhir Mhaoil (every day).

So, although the Creed was not worth fishing, Association members still had access to salmon fishing in parts of the island where rain fell! The anglers who ventured out on the trout lochs report some very good sport with trout to 1.5lbs taken.
