Catch Returns

I have started working through the fishing returns for 2006. Loch Langavat fished well this year with 28 salmon/grilse to 9lbs boated. 6 were returned. 585 brown trout were boated with 406 returned. There were also two sea trout and one char taken. The salmon catches were evenly spread though the season but the average size was down from the usual 5lbs to 3.5lbs. Still, this is the best return from the loch for several years and is actually very good when the poor weather conditions is taken into consideation. The quality of the brown trout was better this year with the average weight up to 12oz from the normal 10oz. Thanks go to Uig and Hamnaway estate for the lease of their fishing rights. Loch Fhir Mhaoil fished very well with 17 grilse taken in 21 visits. This does not tell the whole story as one party lost 4 grilse at the side of the boat and another party did the same with 3 grilse! Saa is very fortunate that Grimersta Estate allows us to put a boat on the loch. We offer this salmon fishing free to members and the quality of the salmon fishing has turned out to be excellent.
