Tackle to Use
There are various different fishing methods used on the island that require different kinds of tackle for success.

Fly Fishing
A nine to eleven foot fly rod, with a line rating of AFTM 6 to 8 on an appropriate reel is a good all round combination to use when fishing Hebridean lochs and rivers for Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon. Floating lines are most commonly used, but when conditions dictate an intermediate line works very well.

Spinning / Worming
A six to ten foot rod light fly rod with an appropriate reel, loaded with 4-6lb line for Brown Trout and 6-10lb line for Salmon & Sea Trout.

Recommended Flys
When fishing for Brown Trout, Salmon and Sea Trout the following flies have found favour among local anglers. Patterns fished on size 8-12 hooks, on casts of two to three hooks.

Trout Flys - Black Pennel, Grouse & Claret, Claret Bumble, Teal Blue & Silver, Blue Zule, Black Zulu, Butcher, Invicta, Clan Chief, Goat's Toe, Donegal Blue, Peter Ross

Salmon Flys - Stoats Tail, Silver Stoat, Ally Shrimp, Gary Dog, Hairy Mary, Black Brahan, Kenny's Killer, Thunder & Lightening, Muddlers Minnow, Munro Killer

The list of flys to use really is endless and there is no reason not to try your own favourites.
