Lewis and Harris have some of the best, most readily available and inexpensive Salmon and Sea Trout fishing in the whole of Scotland. The last couple of seasons have been excellent for both salmon and sea trout and there is every reason to expect the trend to continue.

Stornoway Angling Association has access for members to some of the best Salmon and Sea Trout fishing in the Western Isles of Scotland, as well as access to boats on a number of trout lochs in Lewis.

In 2000 the association took over the management of the Creed system. The resulting catch; 112 Salmon and 209 Sea Trout was the best for a decade. The association has plans for developing both the infrastructure and the productivity of the system. Access to most of the fishing is good, the river discharging into the sea in Stornoway harbour after flowing through the picturesque wooded Castle grounds.

Brown Trout fishing season opens on 15 March and closes on 6 October, the best months are May through to the end of June and the first half of September, although the bait fisher and the persistent fly fisherman will catch trout throughout the season.

Don't expect monster Brown Trout, the native fish is wild and will probably average slightly more than half a pound. You may catch bigger but rest assured the clean hard fighting half pounders are very good sport and with pink flesh make lovely eating.
